toots-7The legendary Toots And The Maytals  came back to Brooklyn Bowl NYC for a pair or shows July 18th and 19th. They were a big part of popularizing reggae music, and their 1968 song “Do the Reggay” was the first song to use the word “reggae”.

The show started with an acoustic performance by Victory  She did some original songs like “Jazz Festival” and “Weatherman” as well as some covers including “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and Stevie Wonder’s “Overjoyed”.

Toots And The Maytals took the stage shortly after and played lots of classics like toots“Pressure Drop”, “Bam Bam” and”Country Road”.  Toots Hibbert, now 76, looked and sounded great. The packed crowd was more than excited to see the reggae legend as they reached for high fives and handshakes when he was within arms reach. The band and backup singers also sounded great. The show ended with an encore of one of the most covered reggae songs of all time “54-46 Was My Number”.
