On March 28th CocoRosie celebrated the release of their eighth studio album, Little Death Wishes, at Xanadu Roller Arts. The sister duo showcased their talents in a captivating live hybrid-mini, delivering a performance that beautifully conveyed the raw emotion of their new album.
The event kicked off with skating in the roller rink alongside sisters Sierra and Cassady, with a special appearance made by Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter, Phoebe Bridgers. After a couple hours of skating, the rink was enclosed by big red curtains that completely transformed the space into an intimate performance venue. The crowd gathered on the skating rink with their attention to the stage as Mistress of Ceremony, Lady Danger from Berlin, introduced the duo.

Sierra, a classically trained opera-singer, opened the set by masterfully singing the first track on the album “Wait for Me”. This poetic piece, layered with lo-fi experimental beats, sets the tone for the entire album. Its alluring sound pulls the listener in, detailing the journey of women, sisters, and humanity facing the harsh realities of life and healing.

The sisters were captivating to watch in their element. Highlighted by stage lights that perfectly connected with the musicality of each song , the fog dispersed across the stage enhancing the whimsical atmosphere of tracks like “Paper Boat”. This song is a pleasing mixture of Sierra’s angelic singing and Bianca’s percussion and rhapsodic delivery, highlighting the rawness of love and heartbreak.
The sister duo closed out their set by leading the crowd in singing happy birthday to Sierra. Lady Danger then took to stage to host an energetic fashion show featuring members of the audience as models. Among them included NYC-based sustainable fashion designer Web, flaunting their “freaky, flashy, tacky” brand, The Web Has No Weaver. The duo prides themselves on creating inclusive spaces for unique and diverse people from across the globe, and their fans embody that.

The event appropriately titled “CocoRosie’s Jubilation Ball: A Tits Out Ecstatic Rave Celebration” kicked off their 42-date European tour.
