Less than two weeks after releasing their newest EP, Tightrope, NOSHOWS has already amassed nearly 2.5 million streams on Spotify. The album release show, performed just a week after the EP dropped, took place at Baker Falls in NYC’s Lower East Side, a venue with a modest 150-person capacity. The contrast between their online success and the intimate setting of their performance highlights why NOSHOWS is one of the best examples of NYC homegrown talent — an act on the verge of breaking out.

Loyal fans, likely drawn from the group’s previous shows at Mercury Lounge, Gramercy Theatre, or NOSHOWS’s Sofar Sounds residencies, wasted no time showing their excitement. The crowd was hyped early in the night, even as Max Satow, the band’s frontman, singer, and songwriter, soundchecked with guitar riffs from one of his more popular songs. When a banner bearing the band’s logo unfurled on stage, the anticipation for what was soon to come was palpable.

The night featured many of the band’s popular prior releases, including songs like “Wants and Needs” and “Portrait.” Max’s eclectic blend of alt-rock and funk was on full display, with the front row dancing and reaching out to the band throughout the show. Keyboard riffs, guitar solos, and a surprise cowbell added to the building energy, all leading to the focus of the night – three songs from the new EP. The finale, “Used to It,” quickly became the biggest hit from the new release. The moment the first keyboard notes rang out, the audience became fully immersed in the music, almost as if their night’s ending couldn’t be possible.

Don’t let the intimate size of its recent performance venues fool you – NOSHOW is anything but small. Max enlisted two-time Grammy winner Marc Swersky to co-produce and co-write the new EP and Seth Von Paulus of the Smashing Pumpkins to mix it. Through their commanding stage presence, confidence in their musical identity, and distinctive songwriting, NOSHOWS is undoubtedly a band to watch for the future.
