dean-13Juliet Ivy, an indie-pop singer hailing from Queens, celebrated the release of her sophomore EP, Tiny But Scary, with a colorful show at Brooklyn Made on August 9, 2024. The venue, decorated with bows, plushies of her dog Pesto, and red, heart-shaped balloons, set the tone for a memorable evening. As doors opened, fans – some sporting bows in their hair to show their support – flocked to the front of the stage for the best view.

deanNear the merchandise tables, an interactive area featured a bold red photo backdrop with the EP’s title in cutout letters, offering fans a perfect spot for taking pictures. One of Juliet’s team members also took Polaroid photos of fans in front of the red backdrop, which were displayed on a board for all to admire. Slips of paper and a Q&A box, labeled “Ask Juju,” were arranged nearby for fans to submit questions to Juliet. As Juliet Ivy was about to start her set, a red and white bow was added to her microphone.

dean-11The EP includes a wide range of themes and tones, from the melancholic lyrics of “is it my face?” and “4 foot 2,” detailing feelings of insecurity and depression, to “kid,” which is an ode to her family here in NYC. Juliet Ivy started her set with “is it my face?” Though the song’s somber undertone was present, her live performance imbued it with a fresh and energetic spirit.

Some of her older songs and covers were interspersed between Juliet’s new releases, including Charli XCX’s “Apple”, Natasha Bedingfield’s “Unwritten”, and her own “we’re all eating each other”. After singing “girl talk”, the closing song on her EP, she brought the Q&A box up to the stage to start a “girl talk” with the audience. Juliet offered thoughtful answers to her fans’ written questions – tips on personal growth, dating, and advice for aspiring artists. The energy in the room peaked with “boytoy,” a playful track that invited audience participation.

dean-7To close out the night, Juliet performed “sweet dreams,” which she described as a reminder to focus on the positive things to come. As the song entered its final verse, her band stepped away, leaving just Juliet, her guitar, and the audience to share the moment.

Juliet Ivy’s performance was a testament to her talent as an artist and her deep connection with her fans. The show was a perfect blend of personal touches, engaging music, and interactive moments, all of which made it a memorable celebration of her new EP.
